GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Department of Psychiatry was established in the year 1997, it was initially under the cover of medicine department, later separated into independent department in 1997. OPD initially used to run in OPD block then Shifted to new Psychiatry building in the year 2008, this building was constructed with the help of 50 lakhs sanctioned as a part of upliftment of mental health services in government hospital psychiatry by the Government of India. We have 43 inpatient beds, which includes general male ward, general female ward, short stay ward, child and adolescent ward, deaddiction ward, 4 special rooms, ECT room, EEG room, three consultant rooms, one department library, seminar hall and one duty room. MD Psychiatry course started in the year 2013, 2 MD seats each academic year- one based on All India entrance & another one based on state entrance exam. We have 3 Psychiatrists, 3 Senior residents, one Clinical Psychologist, one Pychiatric social worker, 3 Staff nurse & other Supporting Staff. OPD works on all 7 days in a week. Emergencies attended 24 hrs.

About Kims

The present KARNATAKA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, HUBBALLI,( K.I.M.S. HUBBALLI.) was earlier known as the KARNATAKA MEDICAL COLLEGE, HUBBALLI. It was established in AUGUST 1957.For initial few years, the college was functioning from a building which is now known as J.G.Commerce College. Later, it was shifted to the present beautiful campus comprising of 100 acres of land, situated on Pune – Bangalore National Highway, Vidyanagar, Hubballi.
