Pharmacology

The department was established in November 1959 in the 1st floor right wing of the college building having a total area of 1100 sq. m. It has trained approx. 6500 U.G. students, and 16 P.G. students (M.D) till date. The M.D Pharmacology course was started in 1965 & course is recognized by the M.C.I

WHY PHARMACOLOGY AS A CAREER OPTION?

Pharmacology is a subject, which connects the other disciplines of pharmaceutical sciences with medicine. This branch of science equips a student with the ability to appreciate the establishment of dose, dosage, efficacy and safety of medicines, their mechanisms and disposition. Pharmacology gives immense scope for exploration in to diversified subdomains such as signalling and molecular mechanisms of medicines, clinical pharmacology and biopharmaceutics, non-clinical and clinical trials. This opens up opportunities for further academic upgradation, sometimes with funded research projects of national importance supported by government funding agencies.

The pharmaceutical industry, especially clinical research organizations offer variety of career opportunities in different business verticals such as basic pharmacological research, pre-clinical toxicology, clinical pharmacology, quality assurance and compliance, medical/scientific writing, pharmacovigilance, marketing (scientific/product management) and many more…

The present KARNATAKA INSTITUTE OF MEDICAL SCIENCES, HUBBALLI,( K.I.M.S. HUBBALLI.) was earlier known as the KARNATAKA MEDICAL COLLEGE, HUBBALLI. It was established in AUGUST 1957.For initial few years, the college was functioning from a building which is now known as J.G.Commerce College. Later, it was shifted to the present beautiful campus comprising of 100 acres of land, situated on Pune – Bangalore National Highway, Vidyanagar, Hubballi.
